5 Favourite Restaurants in Vancouver

5-favourite-food-places-in-vancouver

"You haven't really mentioned the food." As I thought about my blog posts of Vancouver, I realised the truth of my friend's statement. Part of this is down to student budgets; going out for meals regularly isn't always something you can do with limited finances. Adding our dietary requirements to the mix makes it more complicated. Often when we went out for food, our dietary needs would go out the window. We'd pretend we didn't have restrictions and face the consequences of ignoring our bodies.

Our favourite places to eat out in Vancouver:

1- The celebratory date night

I loved our visit to 'Top of Vancouver Restaurant.' Living on a student budget, this meal was expensive for us. It's beautiful and the view is as much a part of the experience as the delightful food. It is probably the nicest restaurant I have been to, ever! We loved celebrating our wedding anniversary here.

2- The fast food place

'A&W Burger' is our favourite fast food restaurant. We miss it. Big time.

3- The baked goods

Friends introduced us to 'Breka' bakery just before we left Vancouver. Although I wish we discovered it earlier, my waistline is thankful we didn't! A 24/7 bakery continually serving up delicious treats - where is the English equivalent? My Handsome Man and I decided to put them to the test and ordered a Cornish Pasty. I have to admit they did a pretty decent job. Holidaying in Cornwall every year, I know my Cornish pasties and the one from 'Breka' was a really good substitute. There were a variety of gluten free options which is always a bonus. We sampled lots of their treats and if when we make it back to Vancouver, I will pay 'Breka' a visit.

4- The Sweet Treat

'The Candy Aisle' sold English treats so we enjoyed shopping there occasionally. It's expensive because it's imported but we enjoyed a little taste of home. Technically it's a shop so our favourite Frozen Yoghurt place we visited was 'Qoola.' They even had a dairy free selection which is great for me. We spent over $20 on frozen yoghurt and I don't regret a thing.

5- The Poutine Place

Visiting Vancouver for the first time? You have to try poutine. It's a bit like trying Cornish pasties in Cornwall, Bagels in New York, or Croissants and Macarons in France. It just has to be done.

We sampled poutine from a lot of places in Vancouver but I think our favourite was from 'La Belle Patate.' The cheese curds were the right level of squeaky. Most places we visited, I was happy to skip the poutine but from 'La Belle Patate,' it was worth the stomach ache from eating dairy.
