A living room I want to live in
The living room was perhaps the biggest shock when you entered the house. The decor was interesting and definitely not our taste.
The day we exchanged keys, we walked into the living room and my husband started peeling wallpaper - just to see how easily it would come off. The answer was very easily and we proceeded to remove sheets of wallpaper before actually having a glass of something nice to celebrate the fact that this house was now ours.
We took a crowbar to the pine cladding on the fireplace and discovered pipes for the back boiler and gas fireplace and wires for the electric fireplace - none of which still existed in the fireplace.
Our plasterers tried to plaster but the paint reacted with the mix, so we blue-gritted the walls to make the job more manageable.
The day we took up the carpet, the room seemed to grow. I knew the carpet was oppressive, but I don’t think I realised the extent until it was gone and it felt like a new space.
As the pictures show, there has been a lot of work and progress. We still want to get new ceiling lights, and replace the blue drawers with something more neutral to suit this colour scheme. The list goes on, but I am more than happy to be in this space, to curl up with a blanket, switch on the fairy lights and cozy up for an evening.
It’s definitely starting to feel like home.
