Canada Day

canada day paradeJuly 1st marks Canada Day. There have been a few British "holidays" I have expected My Handsome Man to have off from school, not because I expect Canada to follow Britain but because that is my "normal". There have also been a few days he has been off which have taken me by surprise. Canada Day was one of the latter. My Handsome Man and I celebrated by attending the Canada Day Parade in Vancouver. A sea of people dressed in red and white engulfed us when we arrived Downtown. Little Canadian flags waved all around us, others had their cheeks marked with the Maple leaf.

We met up with our friends (2 Canadians, 1 American, 1 Mexican, 1 Icelandic and us - 2 English) and claimed a spot to watch the parade.

I love how multi-cultural Vancouver is. I love that throughout the parade different cultures performed traditional dances and wore traditional clothes. It was amazing to watch so many Canadians. There were also many groups demonstrating their talents. Police began the parade interweaving on motorbikes - it was incredible to watch. There was so much variety in the parade: marching bands, dancers, fencing students, martial artists and cultures from around the globe.
