Cornwall
As a family, we have visited Cornwall several times. We used to camp every summer near Penzance and would spend each day in our wetsuits on the beach.
This year we decided to rent a cottage. I dislike camping. I struggle to sleep and then struggle with tiredness. The trip was with family - my parents, siblings and families (minus the one in Canada). It was a last holiday together before My Handsome Man and I move to Vancouver for a year.
The cottage we rented was in a little village called Ruan Minor. The cottage was fantastic and came complete with outdoor decking overlooking Cadgwith Bay. We would certainly love to stay again and I would recommend Classic Cottages (the company we used to book the cottage) to anyone. They have nearly 800 cottages in the south west. The cottage we stayed in felt like a home away from home and we loved our week there.
Cadgwith Bay is a few minutes walk downhill from the cottage. We wandered down for a browse on the first evening. There are two bays; the first is a pebble beach where the fishing boats port, the second is a sandy cove. The village consists of a few shops which sell the essentials i.e. cornish pasties which we devoured eagerly. There was also a shop selling a range of gluten-free products which was perfect for My Handsome Man as he is coeliac.
About five minutes drive from the cottage was a beach called Kennack sands. It was perfect for us. The carpark was almost on the beach - great for me as I can't walk a great distance, and the parking was reasonably priced. There was a little shop selling buckets and spades, body boards, beach paraphernalia and ice cream. The beach itself was sandy with a small area of pebbles and the waves were perfect for body boarding - which kept the men happy.
