Me and Mine November

me and mine november Sometimes my Me and Mine is a posed photo of the two of us, other months it is a documentary style photo. I love both, I love the smiling photos but I also love recording our here and now. November has been a month of working in to the early hours of the morning trying to meet impending deadlines. As a result November's Me and Mine is documentary style taken last night, but it sums up our month pretty well.

Writers are procrastinators by nature. My Handsome Man sits down to write and an hour later only a few sentences are at the top of the page, the flashing cursor mocking him (if he were looking at the screen). He is on his phone, distracted by the latest message from a friend, stopping to send a response because, well, he doesn't want to be rude.

Some writers work best on their own, they squirrel themselves away behind a closed door and emerge only to eat and sleep until the draft is complete. My Handsome Man is not this type of writer, he likes to write with others present. He bounces ideas back and forth discussing options for storylines and potential outcomes, he brainstorms character motives and possible scenarios. Someone else being there also helps to keep him focused. He talks through the story to make it clearer in his head. I sit, listen and ask questions.

The course My Handsome Man is studying is intensive and there are lots of deadlines, as a result our evenings have looked remarkably similar. We sit at our table and he types. I sit opposite as his sounding board, I nudge his focus when he gets distracted and read over his work. As it gets later and I start yawning repeatedly, I abandon him to his own devices and hope he can finish on time. My health is not at a point where I can pull all nighters with him. He sneaks to bed and cuddles me before sleeping.

I love my writer and I am ridiculously proud of how well he is doing at school. We are looking forward to Christmas and a little break from school. I think he is more excited for Star Wars though! Christmas is quite possibly my favourite time of year. Our advent calendar is hanging up and ready to be opened tomorrow morning. Our Christmas will be smaller and simpler this year as our Christmas decorations are in England, but it can't come soon enough for me. We are hoping to fit in some adventures over the Christmas break and if we do, I will definitely blog about it.
