English Bay Beach
We haven't been to a beach since we arrived in Vancouver. Recently the temperature has risen and we decided we needed to escape to the beach. We walked along the sea wall from 'Sunset Beach' to 'English Bay Beach'. It was absolutely beautiful. We paddled in the sea and regretted leaving our swimming stuff at home.
Inukshuk
Between Sunset Beach and English Bay Beach is an 'Inukshuk'. From my understanding, an Inukshuk is an Inuit symbol or landmark. It is used for navigational purposes or to mark a place of respect. 'Inukshuk' in the Inuit language means "in the likeness of human". The monument means "someone was here" or "you are on the right path."
English Bay Beach
We wandered along English Bay Beach barefoot at dusk, our feet in the sand. When we had walked the length of the beach, we sat and watched the sun set behind Vancouver Island. I loved being on the beach. There were people playing beach volleyball, others were swimming in the sea, children explored the outdoors and we overheard cute conversations between parent and child as we walked by. People were embracing the gorgeous weather as they cycled, skated or ran the sea wall. I enjoyed having my camera with me to take photographs. 
The Laughing Men
We decided to head home on a different route to the way we had come. Doing so, we found these laughing men sculptures. We started copying them and taking photographs. Soon others around us were doing the same.
On the wall behind them it said:
"May this sculpture inspire laughter playfulness and joy in all who experience it."
I love that this art was created to make people smile, laugh and inspire others to be more playful and embrace joy. I think it definitely does this. We could not help but smile as we looked at the joyful faces of these men.
I have been wanting to create more videos of our time here in Vancouver so used English Bay Beach as an opportunity to start. There is something about the idea of capturing moments from our lives in different formats that I love, but I am definitely more confident with photography than I am with filming. I am also more comfortable behind the camera than I am in front!
