Film Nights

0O7A7602Over the last three years, my interest in film has increased massively; it kind of comes with the territory of marrying a man who wants to work in the film industry. So far this year, I have watched 38 films. I know that isn't a huge number - there are people we know who watch a film every night and if we were in England with our Unlimited cards we would have seen a lot more! 38 films works out at just over one a week which, considering we've been focusing on Television shows recently, isn't bad.

Of the 38 films I have seen I have narrowed down to 8 of my favourites. They aren't in any particular order and they haven't all been released this year. We spent some time at the beginning of the year catching up on the Oscar nominated films.

1- The Martian

A film that got me excited about science. I loved it! I loved the humour and I thought Matt Damon did a fantastic job.

2- Batman v Superman

I know there was a lot of disappointment around this film. I really enjoyed it though. I think that Ben Affleck did an amazing job as Batman, he seemed to just get the character. In comparison I found Christian Bale's portrayal too angry.

3- The Jungle Book

For me, one of the songs felt a little bit out of place but I was amazed by the special effects and CGI. I forgot they weren't real animals a lot of the time. We saw this in 3D and, even if you aren't a fan of 3D, I highly recommend you do the same.

4- Captain America: Civil War

I found this a harrowing watch; seeing friends turn on each other makes it very difficult to watch. My Handsome Man recommended I read the graphic novel. With the movie I felt that it should have been an Avengers film, rather than a Captain America film. When reading the graphic novel I was team Iron Man, but I felt the film gave you no choice but to be team Captain America because it focused so much on his story. Definitely worth watching, though.

5- Cloud Atlas

A highly underrated film. The soundtrack to this is like nothing I have ever heard before. I found the concept really interesting and was amazed by the costumes and makeup allowing the same actors to play so many different roles.

6- Bridge of Spies

I'll confess that I watched this film to see if I felt Mark Rylance deserved his Oscar for Best Supporting Actor. I found the film incredibly intriguing and was hooked from start to finish. Mark Rylance did a great job but in all honesty I don't think he would have been my top pick.

7- Ant-Man

I didn't know much about Ant-Man going in to the film and was pleasantly surprised with how comedic it was. I loved the scene with the Thomas the Tank Engine train.

8- Inside Out

Pixar just keep going from strength to strength. I love this film and rewatched it this year. I love the concept and the story they have created. It's clever and also tugs on the heart strings.
